Routes to and from Müstair

Seemingly remote, the monastery of St. Johann is located on the easternmost border of Switzerland. Almost 120 kilometres and two passes separate Müstair from the cantonal capital of Chur. A look at the object culture and reality of life in the pre-modern era, however, puts this assumption into perspective. By means of selected objects, the focus exhibition traces archaeological traces of travel. The finds, some of which are far away, bring surprising connections to light when they – like a scallop from Santiago de Compostela – bridge distances of up to 7000 kilometres.
