Details

Description

The starting point is Sta. Maria. From here, the hiking trail leads along a forest road through the larch forest up to Val Vau. Here follows a turnoff to the steep but varied ascent to Lai da Rims, past an imposing waterfall. After two steep steps, the plateau with the emerald blue lake comes into view. From here there are two variants:

Variant 1:

Continue on a challenging trail that leads at the end over scree to the Piz Umbrail (3032m.a.s.l.) and from there on an alpine mountain path back down to the Umbrail Pass. From the customs stop, the Postbus goes back to Sta. Maria (Attention: Only a few connections, note the timetable and time arrival!)

Variant 2:

Continue along the Lai da Rims and then up to the saddle of Piz Praveder (detour to the summit possible – great view!). From there, a stony, sometimes somewhat slippery path leads down into the beautiful Val Mora to the alpine road. This leads over 8km and 800 meters in altitude back to Sta. Maria.

Geheimtipp

  • In the high season, a PostBus runs to Val Vau
  • Attention: the trail is also used by bikers. The priority for hikers/bikers is regulated and depends on the offer days of the hiking bus PostBus Val Vau: Wed, Thu and Sat priority for hikers! On the remaining days, coexistence applies.
  • Relics of military history on the descent from Piz Umbrail
